Rules and regulations:

1)
Prototypes and galleys are acceptable as long as they are fully functioning and the product will be available for sale by press time. (November 30th, 2008) If the items require batteries or any other accessories they must be provided.

2)
A separate entry form must be completely filled out for each item entered.

3)
For each submission 3 of the same product must be sent to the review department.

4)
Entries will not be accepted without the total payment in US Funds.

5)
The product judges will not have access to your phone calls or e-mails and the office staff have no influence over the judges. You will receive an e-mail when the order is received, processed and credit charged. Winners will be announced on January 1st, 2009.

E-mail one - when the order is processed and the credit is charged.
E-mail two - when the product has been received.
E-mail three - when the product has been reviewed.
E-mail four - when the awards are announced. (December 31st, 2008)

Judges feedback and/or evaluations will not be released.

7)
Winners of the Family Choice Awards will receive editorial coverage in participating magazines January and February 2009, then online for the entire year. This coveted award represents the 2009 Family Choice Award winners selected from over 1500 judges.

8)
Entries must be products for children or about children.

9)
There are no restrictions on the release year for the product.

10)
Products that have been re-released with updated features will be considered new products.

11)
Items that are part of a series may be submitted as a series or individually.

12)
Winners will get the right to place 2009 Family Choice Award Winner seals on their products. (Winners will be notified about the details of this process with their congratulatory e-mail)

Criteria for selection
**Each of the judges for each product will review the product based on the four factors listed below.

  • Excitement Factor
    1. How excited about the product is the judge the first time he/she sees it in the packaging.
    2. How excited about the product is the judge the first time he/she sees it outside the packaging.

  • Longevity Factor
    1. How long the judge plays with the product upon first use
    2. How long the judge thinks this product will keep his/her interest.

  • Educational Factor
    1. How much the judge learned from this product.
    2. How much the judge enjoyed about learning from this product.

  • Physical Factor
    1. The quality of construction.
    2. The quality of appearance.
    3. Ease of assembly.
